Several weeks after a student
submits their FAFSA to the processor,
they will receive a Student Aid
Report (SAR). The SAR contains
all the information the student
provided on their FAFSA, messages
from the processor, and a list
of schools that will receive the
SAR.
Schools will use the SAR to determine
a student's eligibility for student
aid.
If a student does not apply for
a PIN prior to completing the
FAFSA, they will also be receiving
a PIN number from Federal Student
Aid Programs.
This PIN number is important
and should not be misplaced.
The PIN allows students to electronically
sign for loans and access U.S. Department
of Education information on the
Internet.
It is important to review the
SAR to make sure that all of the
information is correct. If any
changes need to be made, the student
should first check with the school(s)
they are considering to see if
the changes can be submitted electronically.
When one school submits the student's changes, the other schools listed on the
student's SAR will also receive
them. A student may instead mail the
corrected version of the SAR back
to the processor. Schools that
are not listed on the SAR will
need to receive their own set
of original hard copies. To request
these, students should call the
Federal Student Aid Information
Center at 319-337-5665.
If a student has not received
their Student Aid Report four
weeks after sending in their FAFSA,
they should contact the Federal
Student Aid Information Center
at 800-433-3243.
